Best Lacrosse Sticks: Learn and Improve Your Game

If you are planning to learn and play lacrosse, you will need to invest in the best lacrosse sticks. While sticks are not the only equipment you need, it is, in fact, the most important part of lacrosse as the game focuses around the sticks and the ball. This is why the quality of the lacrosse sticks you have is very important.

A lacrosse stick consists of a shaft, ahead, and a net. The length of the shaft varies by sticks as the length usually depends on the level of skills. Most beginner-level lacrosse sticks are 30 inches in length, which is the appropriate length for an entry level stick that is used for learning the basics of the sport.

Lacrosse is a popular game in many countries, especially in the U.S. and Canada. Many high school kids aspire to be professional lacrosse players one day. However, in order for that dream to come true, they will need quality equipment from day one, right?

  1. Indeed the stick is the center piece of the game and it’s very hard to choose the right one. Especially for kids, when I want to balance functionality right now and usability in the future. I mean, they grow fast and they skills on the game grow with them. Do you think it’s a good idea to invest in a more expensive and professional stick right now or buy one of the sticks you recommend here first and upgrade later when needed. Also how do I know if my kids have out-grown their current equipment and need a upgrade?

Thanks for this review and comparison article. It has been very helpful.

    • Hi, Wei and thank you.

      Excellent questions.

You are right that it is essential to think about now and then. But my opinion is that you need to see if the kids like the sport or not in the start. At the same time, things need to be good so is it last long enough that it be with enough quality so the kids can take good development with practice their skills.

If you save in the quality and the kids want to play the game you many times ended up with buying many sticks.

So my advice is that focus on, you can say, the middle.  That is not to start playing like pro equipment but too not buy to cheap, so you need to buy it many times. That is the reason I recommend this three sticks, and you can have similar in mind because this is not the only one, because it is durable and long lasting. All this three stick is both, durable and long lasting, so it is an excellent stick for beginners.

But at the same time, because you have the kids in mind, I recommend The STX FiddleSTX Mini Super Power Stick because it is precisely for kids who want to begin with lacrosse. As it is for kids, it is made from plastic. The other two is more for adults.

About when your kids have out-grown their current equipment and needed an upgrade? My experience is that you will see it or get the feeling. But in the same time, ask the staff, coach, etc and get their advice. But you will see how the kids handle the skills and the game and see their development and get the feeling when the time comes.

  2. My grandson who is 11 years old is learning lacrosse. He grows every day it seems like so I want to get him a stick that will work for him for a while. He is just starting out, so I want to get him a good one that will last him a while. What do you recommend? The team will be playing/practicing 3 days a week starting in November so I think something durable and yet, not too expensive!

Based on your review, it sounds like the STX FiddleSTX Mini Super Power Stick would be about right for him. Do you know how tough the plastic is? This kid plays hard and is very rough on equipment.

Thank you for your review of these products and I look forward to your reply.

    • Hi, Karin Nauber and thank you.

I agree that in the start it most important to have durable and not the pro equipment. He is young and needs to focus on skills number one. But at the same time it is important not to buy bad quality because it will not ends long and can be bad for his development as a Lacrosse player.

Personally, I would choose as you mention, the STX FiddleSTX Mini Super Power Stick. It is for his age, the other two are more for older, and is very durable. About the plastic, it is very rugged plastic heads and shafts. But how tough is always tricky to say.

  3. Lacrosse is not being played in my country, but I  play it sometimes with my friends in the park and usually see it in movies and TV series too. It is a fun game but needs agility and strength of players similar to other sports out there.

Yes, you are right, as you mentioned, if you want to learn Lacrosse or any other sports you need to invest firstly in the equipment since these are necessary for determining the games primarily for the first time. If a beginner like me wants to learn Lacrosse, what would you recommend from the 2 Lacrosse sticks for adults you mentioned? Could I instead use the plastic-made sticks first then just upgrade it once I learned the basics?

    • Hi, Dan Sicat and thank you.

If you have in mind playing in the attack, I will choose The STX Men’s Stallion 200 because you can continue to use it as your skills development as an attacker.

But if not, I would take The Youper Complete Lacrosse Stick because of the rugged design and high quality. That is an excellent value for the money.

    • Hi, Bill and thank you.

Sticks are the critical thing in Lacrosse. All players need it, but there are different stick used on the field. After to come closer to own goal, your sticks are higher.

You ask me about give you a guide about things the players need to have and what I do gladly. I have named the important sticks.  Other must-have equipment is a mouthpiece, ball helmets, and the glove. At the moment I am researching things to find out what I can be recommended about this things.

About Other Protective Equipment are the shoulder pads most important because all players, except the goalkeeper, must have it.

For a beginner, I would recommend the STX FiddleSTX Mini Super Power Stick, but all of this sticks are mainly good for beginners.

I’ve really enjoyed reading this article as you’ve provided us with tonnes of information. I’m interested in getting the STX FiddleSTX Mini Super Power Stick. Is my opinion correct that it would be great for kids because of how flexible it is?

Thank you for answering my question. Keep up the good work!

    • Hi, AV2001 and thank you.

Thank you for your kind words.

I agree with you. It is always great to use flexible sticks. But you need to have in mind that flexible sticks, which is always more lightweithged because the idea is that it is helping to for quick movements, are focused for players who play as midfielders and attackers.

So if the kids play as a defense, you need to look more for the strength of the sticks. But keep in mind that even so the sticks have enough strength is can be lightweight even so.

So this is a very wise choice.

If I can help you with anything else, or if you have any questions, don´t hesitate to contact me.

These lacrosse sticks are all designed for beginners. But even so, you are not in a problem to use it for a while. But as technique grow, and you have development in better players you would think about to sticks focused on the skills which fit better for the player you have developed to be.

  9. Hello,

My kid really loves the game of lacrosse, as an immigrant, I really don’t understand the game, so I do not fancy it. However, I’m a sports lover, so I know the lacrosse game must still give him a level of excitement like soccer gives me.

I was scouring the internet, looking for a lacrosse stick to get him for a gift. And, I’m particularly excited to stumble on your blog, now I have options to choose from.

I think I’ll get him number1, however I’m skeptical because it’s plastic. Is there anyway I can get him something for kids also, but with a longer durability? A stick he can make use of as a teen.

Hoping to get your feedback soon

    • Hi, Louis and thank you.

Thank you for your kind words.

There is a reason for it is mostly in plastic for beginners. It is because it is, if you play in midfield and as an attacker, to have it lightweight. Specialized in the start, it is essential when you are learning and development as player learning drills and technique to have light weighted sticks to easier you to move quickly when you pass or shoot.

  11. I have to start off saying that I didn’t know absolutely anything about lacrosse, I mean seriously the only knowledge I have of lacrosse is when I watched the movie American Pie, and they play it in that. But I am a sports lover and was looking around on your site when I saw this article.

And I really didn’t know how much detail went into the sticks that they use.

I suppose saying that makes me sound pretty naive, the fact that somebody who’s never played it, I do think that when I’ve seen, it played it has to be a tough sport to learn. I mean aiming with a stick with a net at the end of the stick and flinging the ball to the net or another lacrosse player with that kind of precision, that’s pretty incredible to me.

Thank you for remember me that they played Lacrosse in the American pie! I had forgotten it. If people want to refresh their memories, as I did, they can see it here but

I can tell them that the sticks have developed since then.

But this is a great sport; you should try it.

  15. Thank you for this article. I remember STX from when I was playing lacrosse in the Middle School. That was always a good brand to get. That’s cool that the Warrior lacrosse stick comes already broken in. I remember in high school; we always had to press on the pocket with the ball to stretch out the pocket.

With the Warrior lacrosse stick, is it really okay to use for both boys and girls? I thought that girls needed to have a more flat lacrosse stick.

Thank you for laying out these three great options. I think that from these, any level of lacrosse player would be able to find the best steak for them. Have a good day!

Yes, your right that typically has girls more flat. But many stickers for beginners are flatter when they are started to learn the game and this stick is an example of it. So this is one of, not so many, sticks that both genders can use.

My daughter is a freshman in college and I’m sure she hasn’t even thought about it they probably have intramural teams she could join.

I do like the sounds of the Warrior Evo Warp. Kevlar is some pretty serious material so I am guessing the pockets will be as tough as they come. The alloyed shaft will also ensure strength and weight is taken care of.
