Buyer’s Guide

Most people in this generation can’t seem to stay away from their smartphones. They feel incomplete if their phones are not within arm’s reach. For the many who still try to stay fit despite their busy schedules but still need to stay connected, one must-have is an armband you can wear and hold your phone at the same.

Since phone armbands have become handy for modern sports enthusiasts, a lot of styles are available, which makes it challenging to find one that would work for your every need. With that said, we would like to be of help by giving you tips on what to look for in an armband.

1. Fit

How the armband fits your arm is very vital because this will dictate the level of comfort you feel as you wear it. Look for an armband with a secure grip that is not too tight that your arm feels trapped. Some models offer armband extensions for people with big biceps. You will also find styles that are available in various sizes.

2. Storage

Aside from the apparent reason that the armband should have storage for your phone, try to look for its storage capacity as well. Some of us want to bring other small items as we work out. Check the product has storage for keys, cards, money, and whatever essentials you want to bring. Just remember that adding other things in your armband will increase its weight and may cause additional fatigue.

3. Functionality

With all the different styles of armbands to choose from, each one offers one or two features that will distinguish them from the rest. Below are some features that can prove to be functional, as well. You need to determine which specific function will work for you.

  • Touchscreen

Having full access to your mobile phone’s screen is one of the essential features for most active runners. With this feature, you can stay connected to the online world as you try to give attention to your body’s wellness. Most runners also use mobile apps to track their progress and fitness level.

  • Headphone Ports

Running or working out with music is a debatable topic. Some would instead focus on safety and keep their attention on the tracks and their surroundings. On the other hand, others believe that listening to music with the volumes up may pose a danger as you will not hear oncoming traffic.

Nevertheless, most runners and athletes choose to listen to upbeat music to lift their spirits as they exert physical effort while working out. It is also a known fact that we tend to move our bodies in tune to the music, sometimes unconsciously, making time go by faster and the workout becomes easier.

  • Extension Strap

This innovative feature, along with armband in different sizes, is for health buffs with big biceps. Before this feature, most armbands were made in standard size with limited adjustment options to fit all arm sizes.

  • Velcro Strap

A Velcro strap seems to be the most convenient locking system for an armband because it’s easy to remove and put on. However, some people are sensitive to the roughness of a Velcro strap.

  • Hook-and-Loop Strap

This is another kind of closure that is somehow similar and associated with Velcro. They are durable, safe, and easy to use. The downside to this kind of closure is the amount of dust, hair, or fur that can attach themselves to the strap, lessening its ability to connect effectively.

  • Sweat-Proof

This is an essential feature for an armband since you will get sweaty as you work out. If the armband is not sweat-proof, the wetness may cause the band to slip from your arm. Also, your skin might be irritated by the chemical reaction of the sweat and the armband’s material.

  • Waterproof

This is another essential feature, especially for those who like running in all kinds of weather or for people who love water sports. A waterproof case will protect your mobile phone from damage. This feature may also come handy for athletes who sweat a lot during intense exercise routines.

  • Zipper Storage

This feature is perfect for those who like to bring small and valuable items as they work out, such as keys, money, or card. Putting those things in a zippered pocket still feels more secured than just slipping it inside an open pocket.

Why do runners wear armbands

4. Safety and Security

Safety and security in an armband mean access to communication during emergencies and visibility for the user, especially for those who run at night. This prevents your smartphone from slipping and getting lost as you run or getting damaged by natural elements. You will find models with reflective materials, while others have built-in LED lights.

5. Size

You will find a lot of phone armband styles and sizes to complement the various mobile phone designs and sizes, along with their corresponding protective cases. That fact alone is the reason why companies produce a wide selection of phone armbands to cater to every customer’s needs.

Therefore, you need to check the armband’s phone compatibility when buying one. Look for a universal armband that you can use for different phone brands.

6. Cost

Most phone armbands are affordable, durable, and convenient to use. For budget-conscious folks, price is paramount. Some models are budget-friendly but do not compromise on the quality of the product.

Focusing on the price alone and disregarding the efficiency of the product will defeat the purpose of why you want to use a phone armband in the first place.

  1. Great insight into all the different phone holders that are out there to make life easier and more convenient for an athlete. Just recently purchased an armband phone holder to utilise in the gym as my phone in my pocket kept on getting in the way and caused a lot of irritation. There is no more of that, so I would highly recommend that product in this review.

  2. These are some nice options! I typically do my running on a treadmill, and sucks to try and find a place on the treadmill to put my phone, and have to make sure I stay in one position while running. With one of these I will be able to run more peacefully without worrying about dropping my phone. Is there one that you prefer over the others? Thank you for sharing!

    • Hello Travis, and thank you.

Thank you for your kind words.

All these phone holders are very good but have their pros and cons like all things. But because you run mostly ib treadmill, so lack of waterproof is not a problem, I would recommend The VUP Armband.

Because it is very comfortable to wear, and when you run on a treadmill, in most of the case you use t-shirts. But with The VUP Armband, you need to worried that it slips even, so it is on sweat arms.

Don´t hesitate to contact me if I can help you with anything else or if you have any questions.

  3. There is a high level of relief that comes with going out to jog without having issues with positions that keep one’s phone. The importance of having a quality phone holder can only be explained by the runner alone. Cases of the phone falling from the hand of the runner would be limited on getting a phone holder, and in worse cases snatching of phones with is common in areas like mine. All these phone holders have their separate great qualities, and it’s very cool.

  4. I so much hope to get a good phone holder, but I haven’t been lucky around them. I have had lots of broken phones as a result of a phone holder that isn’t good enough holding my phone while running, which I do quite early in the day. The quality of the EOTW Cell Phone Armband Running Case is one I like, and even with the cons, I see it as quite useful since it would also be difficult for my phone just to fall off easily. Nice suggestions.
