Titleist Pro V1

The Titleist ProV1 is a sophisticated golf ball that harbors wonderful trajectory and texture. It performs well in both long and short games. The downside is that it is expensive. However, you could consider the purchase as a long-term investment. Moreover, it is best suited for both amateurs and professionals.

The Features

Long Spin

The ball provides you with the stopping power required for all irons. Whichever shot you execute, be it a touch thin, bunker shot or chip, the ball has ample spin to settle well on the green after a long leap.

Great control of short game

The designers of these balls had this idea in mind; allowing a sufficient length of drive while in complete control of short game is astonishing as compared to balls that are long-distance oriented. The soft feel gives you more confidence to control your greenside. With a high trajectory and considerable spin rate, the performance is equally good during windy and fair-weather days.

Ability to pull through long driving distance

The present-day technology and manufactures have brought up the difference between tour balls and distance balls. The balls might not completely fall into the category of the well-known distance balls but they sure provide an impeccable driving distance. The professionals with great swing speeds of 95mph or more in their tee shots are likely to notice the slight difference.

High performance design

The single digit and professional golfers appreciate this ball because they are able to maintain a wonderful control on the greenside while achieving great rates of spin and extended driving distance. It is designed in such a way that there is total provision of the tee to green performance. The flight penetrates through and has an extremely soft feel. The consistent flight is able to cover a considerably longer distance. The trajectory is able to penetrate in an impeccable way thus achieving a long and low games spin.

for high-level amateurs and professionals

Pros

Unique Distance: Although the Titleist Pro V1 is not particularly a distance ball, it covers an exceptionally long driving distance.

Great texture and sound: The soft surface feel provided by the urethane cover has set good standard on the recent gold balls. In addition, the sublime sound it produces once it comes into contact is simply gratifying.

Flexibility: You tend to experience a special confidence on the greenside while controlling your short game with the soft feel.

Durability: In combination with the elastomeric cover, the ball remains bright and white even after extended use. The durability factor is not only important for looks but also for aerodynamics throughout the game. You will notice a dramatic improvement when it comes to abrasion resistance. The overall feel and consistency have a noticeable impact on the overall scores and performance, with a 3-piece construction and a compression of 104.2.

Cons

Price: The product is simply not a cheap investment. However, do their features justify their worth? It’s a precise yes!

Best suited for high-level amateurs and professionals:

To be clear, you will notice just a few differences as compared to other cheaper alternatives unless you are playing to a single-digit or a sub-5 handicap.

TaylorMade Golf 2017 Burner Golf Ball

The TaylorMade Golf 2017 Burner balls fall in the recreational and value category with a mid compression.

Specs

  • Two-piece construction
  • Lothane Cover
  • 342 type dimples
  • Polybutadiene core

It is important to note that these balls fall in the category of the “distance” balls. This type of ball is ranked lowly in the golf’s hierarchy. To its advantage the overall mid compression allows a good landing when it meets the greenside.

Texture and Sound

It has a soft feel and quite a responsive sound. However, the iron thin provides a rather distressing sensation. The reward it comes with is the commendable and flush feel of the solid strikes.

The Tee

You will enjoy seeing the great hang in the air once the burner takes off high from the tee. The fact that it is a low spin and high launch ball makes it possible for it to deliver the good length required in the distance category. It is strong enough not to deviate in the moderately windy weather thus proving straight enough.

The Fairway

The high trajectory coming from the burner’s less visible backspin gives you a good compensation. You can hardly notice the tiny iron shots coming with a vertical nature rolling on the green. If you like the low-ball shots approach, this is definitely a model to consider.

Ability to pull through long driving distance

On the Greenside

Once you play the burner, you will no longer have to worry about hop-check shots or wicked sand shots spinning. However, you could have quite positive results if you engage in playing on higher pitches and chips. The ball’s characteristics ensures better results overall on such grounds. The reasonably soft texture impacts on the putts and lesser shots too.

Technology

The LDP technology and high-speed core is specifically meant to cover long distance. The dimple design gives it a drag limitation hence providing an increase in the hang time. The secret to a successful hit lies at the burner’s center. It is manufactured in a way that the high-energy core comes into contact with a special layer at the center that limits your spin.

On the good side, the burners feel is not compromised by the long-distance ability. The compression count together with the soft cover warrant wonderful spins and shots on the greenside. You would marvel at how well the burner flies through.

Pros

  • The recreational core promotes a great speed with a considerable yardage.
  • Lothane covers soft and long-lasting nature gives the burner an amazing feel.
  • The aerodynamic low-drag equipment enables maximum lifting of the burner.
  • Youcan carry it for a longer time.
  • You get to cover a longer distance with the burner.
  • TaylorMade Golf 2017 Burner Golf balls offer great performance.
  • It is generally a mid range ballthat even amateurs can use.
  • You hardly notice any scrapes or scuffs on the ball due to the hard outer wear, hence it is long lasting.
  • It has a higher sail in the air and a soft landing as compared to other distance balls.
  • Lastly, it is affordable.

Cons

  • The burner has limits of only long-distance games.
  • It has less control away from the tee as it only has a great spin when approaching the trajectory’s end.
  • The success of it highly depends on the golfer’s prowess to draw or fade.

Titleist Pro V1

Comparing the two

When it comes to golf balls in the market, the Titleist Pro V1 has greater and more features than the TaylorMade Golf 2017 Burner golf balls as much as it is also a good ball. You could wonder which ball stands the wind better, spins longer and faster and has the gold standard considering the factors and features listed above for both.

The hype created by the Titleist Pro V1 is definitely justified. The intention of adding innovation to the ball when it comes to compression has served the long-term purpose of covering both long and short distance. Physically the ball has smaller dimples when compared to the burner ball.

On the other hand, the burner has a higher launch angle when compared to the Pro V1 ball especially when playing off the tee. Moreover, the burner’s speed is quite commendable in the wind due to the nature of the dimples. The Burner is also a more driver friendly golf ball as it does not require expertise to handle it.

With Regards to Distance

There is a strong relation between ball speed and compression. Highly compressed balls are faster than lowly compressed balls. Softer balls are faster but spin less as compared to balls with a hard texture.

While the Pro V1 is designed for high handicap golfers with swing levels exceeding 90mph, the burner balls are designed for lesser swing levels below 90mph. The three piece and two-piece construction difference respectively enhances long distance while supporting high rates of spinning.

Both models no doubt offer a recognizable increase in speed and low-drag distance in longer period games. This is well achieved without affecting durability.

Conclusion

Both of these balls are an excellent choice. However, a few design logistics set them apart. We hope that this review will help you decide on the better option between the Titleist ProV1 and the TaylorMade Golf 2017 Burner Golf balls, depending on your game prowess.

  2. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading this article, especially as I have recently got back into my golf. I am relatively amateur, and I have only known of Titleist golf balls as the main brand, so it was interesting to read about the TaylorMade Golf balls.

As a newcomer or beginner, do you think that it is better to choose the TaylorMade and then progress to the Titleist as that seems to be how I am looking at it from your pros and cons?

Thank you for providing this information.

Yes, for beginner, I recommend the TaylorMade. The reason is that understandingly have beginners much slower swing than stronger golfers. The TaylorMade are made more with players with slower swing than the Titleist, so they fit beginners better.

Don’t hesitate to contact me if I can help you with anything else or if you have any questions.

These two golf balls that are being reviewed here are of high quality and should be considered by anyone serious about their golf game
