When you take everything into consideration and you are talking about all runners in general, the best trail running shoes among these three will have to be Merrell Trail Glove 4 Runner. Despite offering the least protection, the style and comfort that the Barefoot design offers have been a hit with runners for several years.
The reputation of Merrell for creating durable, all-terrain footwear also has that going for it. You just know that the Merrell shoes will last longer than the other two choices. The streamlined design along with the comfort and protection that the shoe offer makes it the best choice on this list.
From the 3 choices of running shoes that you presented, I also like the Merrell men’s trail glove 4 Runner shoes. It looks so comfortable and light.Do they have something for the women and the kids , as well?I know there are families out there who run together. Thanks for the information.Marita
Hi, Marita and thank you.
Yes, it is a great shoe. And an extra bonus to not need to think about the weather when you are located, like I, in an area where weather can change quickly and often.
Many families run together, and it is for sure a quality time! They have great shoe for women and kids too. Because all shipment is so good at Amazon, I have a link on Amazon where you can find the shoes I recommend.
It is Merrell Women’s Glove 4 Trail Runner and Merrel Trail Glove LC (Big Kids) Sneakers (4 M US Big Kid).
In my opinion, this should be a good choice for the family.

Hello Johann,Im very happy that you have such an informative review. It is very concise and i do not have to choose too many brands. I normally do some running and hiking on weekends if the weather is good here in Vancouver, BC. For sure that i will get your advice. I think i will go for the New Balance on what you have described that it is very sturdy and better grip on all kinds of surfaces. Thanks for a helpful review
Hi, Francis and thank you.
Thank you for your kind words.
New Balance is an excellent choice.
If I can help you with anything else, or if you have any questions, don´t hesitate to contact me.
I’ve looked through what you have covered here and I think I’d go for the New Balance brand of shoe, as these, along with Karrimor, are the brand I’m used to with running.
One question though regarding the structure of each shoe – I run about 5 miles every day and I have terrible problems with my running shoes lasting more than 2 to 3 months. Which of the examples above would you say are the most sturdy, and likely to last the longest?
Hi, Chris and thank you.
For active runners like you are is vital to have in mind how durable the shoes are like you ask about. About these three choices, the Merrel shoes will last longest than the New Balance or Speedcross.
There are always some things each runner need to look at when he choose a shoe, something which is most essential for him to or fit him best. But like I said, about who last longest it the Merrel shoe the choice.

Great and highly descriptive, Thanks for taking your time to come up with such a good list for the best running shoe around I do carry out my early morning jog along a construction site, I think I will prefer the New Balance 510v4 because it is rugged and very protective. I will check about the price and maybe it can be shipped to my location.

Really concise article you’ve written here. Looking at the three running shoes you’ve put here, I’ll surely go with the Merrell trail glove 4 runner because it’s light and would be very comfortable on my feet. I actually stumbled on the Asics men running shoes and I wish you’d review it because of its budget friendly price.
Expecting your feedback
Hi, Louis and thank you.
Thank you for your kind words.
Asics running shoes for both genders is an excellent brand. Luckily there is a lot of outstanding running shoes on the market but this time I choose only three, and it was not easy to pick just three of a lot of excellent shoes.

ive noticed you havent mentioned any addidas, nike or puma shoes? why is that? are they not good? have you had issues with them?
I have used addidas for over 20 years and I have never had any issues.
but i have to admit the Speedcross 4 GTX Trail Running Shoes do look cool and comfortable.
Hi, Tarun and thank you.
I have personally used all these three brands you name. Adidas has been my favorite brands because it fit best for my body and running style. Recently UnderArmour has been added as equal Adidas for me.
I have tested Nike shoes many times, and it is no doubt that it is one of the most quality brands you can find, not only in running shoes but in all things that come from this magnificent brand.
Personally, I was not as much for Puma, but I know they are perfect too for most people.
But! This article was not about my taste but focused on what I believe is the best shoes for most runners with comfort and support in mind.
We, runners, are so lucky that there are incredible much of brilliant running shoes on the market. So choosing only three is very difficult and a lot of shoes could come in. To add with your list, Saviour and Brooks come quick up in mind plus many more outstanding brands.
But in the end, this is my choice now, but it was based on much research and a lot of work.

Johann I found this article helpful and agree with you running shoes are important for protection for your body and provide welcome comfort when you’re challenging yourself physically. I must say however that I was running regularly last year but temporarily hung my running shoes up but your article has inspired me to find out more options for me. So on that note, are their options for women too? I presume they are but in the ranges, you have featured?
Hi, Fleur Allen and thank you.
Thank you for your kind words. And it is great to hear about your benefit of reading the post.
About the shoes, yes I can recommend shoes for you. If you are thinking about trail running shoes, this is an outstanding shoe, Merrell Women’s Glove 4 Trail Runner. I set a link in from Amazon as the shipping from them is good and the same for the price.
But I want to mention an article I wrote about running stability shoes for women; there are too perfect shoes. The article is here.

Hi There,
I run for leisure and even though I do participate in the odd 10K here and there, I prefer running in my local trail system. Having the right kind of shoe is imperative to appreciate everything else about running. That being said, I have to agree with your verdict on the Merrell Trail Glove 4 Runner. I have a pair that I used last summer and I really like the style with the minimal cushioning and grippy rubber. Can’t wait for spring to put them on again and go blazing in the trails again.
I love what you present on your website and it’s now in my bookmarks!
Hi, Denis and thank you.
Thank you for your kind words.
Yes, good running shoes which fit both the runners and circumstances is absolutely the basic thing for all runners.

I have a little bit concern about it’s usability in slippery area. Thanks for sharing this excellent review.
Hi, Mzakapon and thank you.
Thank you for your kind words.
The Merrell Trail running shoe is outstanding shoes. And very durable too.
But because you mention about worried about a slippery, thing which is always needed to be careful about, I would like to suggest that there is The Salomon Men’s Running Shoe with better grip for slippery terrain.
Something to have in mind.
