I have often wondered about the difference in different kinds of shoes and, if you must know, I always assumed it was just a selling point to get consumers to buy a shoe for every activity.  It’s interesting to find that basketball shoes have added weight and heel padding for stability.  I would love to see some more posts comparing other types of athletic shoes!

I agree with you on this. Basketball shoes are meant for running around the court. Just not running marathons. Light jogging is fine. I own both. I usually go for a jog two or three times a week and can tell the basketball shoes are not comfortable past a certain distance. And it also depends on how fast you are running. However, if you are on a tight budget and do not need to run for long, the basketball shoes will do just fine.
