Best Bike Helmets to Ensure Your Safety

Best Bike Helmets to Ensure Your Safety

Most bike accidents involve head injuries. What’s disturbing is that these injuries could have all been prevented had the rider worn the best bike helmet. Fortunately, these helmets are reasonably priced, comfortable to wear, and look great too!

Bike helmets are usually made from multiple layers of plastic or foam, which makes them lightweight. These layers ensure that there is no damage on impact and the helmet stays intact for a long time. They come in different sizes for toddlers, kids, and adults, and they have adjustable straps that allow for a snug fit.

Another important thing to consider is ventilation. You do not want dirty and sweaty hair after a bike ride, after all. The helmet you choose should properly channel out the moisture and keep the air going in and out.

1. Razor V-17 Youth Multi-Sport Helmet

Razor V-17 Youth Multi-Sport Helmet

The Razor V-17 helmet is specially designed for young cyclers. In fact, it is a multi-sport helmet that can be used for other activities too, such as skating. It is a high-standard helmet that has an ergonomic padded interior, which provides comfort and of course, adds more security.

This helmet is perfect for kids aged eight to 14 (the head size ranges from 21.5 to 23 inches). Since it is for kids, there are plenty of choices of colors. From glossy blue to glittery purple, it is available in all of the favorite colors of kids.

The helmet also meets the CPSC standards, while the weight is just one pound, making it very lightweight. There are a total of 17 vents in this helmet that keep the air ventilating inside the helmet. This makes the extra moisture leave the helmet and do not lead to bacteria buildup.

The buckles on the side have a quick-release mechanism, making it easy to put it on and off. In case it is not snug enough, you can use the thick pads that come with the helmet to make it so. Here is a detailed review of Razon V-17 Youth Multi-Sport Helmet.

  • Stays cool in summers

CHECK PRICE

The helmet comes from Schwinn, a popular manufacturer that knows the exact need of cyclists. This is why this helmet is designed to provide a perfect fit, air circulation, and of course, uncompromising security. There are two designs/colors in this helmet: carbon (black) and green.

This is an adult bike helmet with a cutting-edge design. It has a dual-fit, adjustable design that makes it sit on the head snugly. The easy-to-adjust webbing ensures that the rider gets the perfect fit. It can fit teenagers as well as adults, thanks to its easy adjustability.

More than that, this helmet also has a built-in visor, which provides necessary shade when cycling under the sun. This feature is super important if you take part in competitive cycling. The straps are quite soft and have double stitching to ensure they never come off or fray.

This is one of the best helmets as far as moisture wicking and ventilation is concerned. First of all, there are 21 vents integrated within the design of the helmet that prevent sweating. Second, the inside of the helmet has moisture-wicking pads. For those who sweat a lot, this is a good option.

Pros

  • Hard-wearing materials used
  • Adjustable enough to fit a teenager as well as an adult

This nutcase helmet is made for serious cyclists who need high-quality helmets to ensure safety on impact. The helmet is made from PVC with EPS foam that readily absorbs the impact. As a result, your head stays protected in case of a fall or accident.

As for ventilation, there are ample holes within the helmet to keep your head cool at all times. The aerodynamic design of this helmet keeps the air flowing through your head inside the helmet too. Even the materials used inside the helmet are very breathable.

This helmet is just as lightweight as it is tough. When you wear it, you will not feel a thing as it weighs just 14.6 ounces. Certified by CPSC, you can rest assured that this helmet meets all the safety standards that are set for cyclists. The best part is that you get all these qualities at a very low price.

Final Thoughts

The three helmets we have reviewed above are all designed with sturdy but lightweight materials to provide the necessary protection without being intrusive. In the end, it is up to you to decide which fits your needs best. The Razor one is for kids whereas the other two are for adults.

The Razor helmet comes in different colors and is quite lightweight. There are ventilation holes as well as extra padding to provide the comfort kids need while cycling. The Schwinn helmet is sturdy yet comfortable and has ample ventilation vents. The adjustment straps allow for adjustments to fit all adult head sizes. Same is the case for the JBM helmet. It can fit both adult men and women. The JBM helmet is impact-resistant, which makes it highly protective.

In terms of pricing, there is not much of a difference between the three. They are inexpensive and come from reliable brands. This ensures that you get your money’s worth every time you wear them to cycle.

  1. I think you had me me with the first helmet, Razor V-17. I cycle a lot, mostly to work and back and since it’s an absolute must to have a helmet and be safe I had problems finding a good one. As you mentioned, I don’t want it to be sweaty and look ridiculous on my head.

Although the Razor V-17 is made for young cyclist, of 14 and younger I really hope my small head can fit in 🙂

What I also really like about your article is that you only have 3 products to choose from – I get overwhelmed by best 10 lists and all that. When I want to buy something I don’t need 10 things to choose from, 3 is enough.

Thank you for making it easy!

I understand you very well about not like to have a sweaty head when you are cycling between places. It is much more comfortable to cycling with a helmet that channels out the moisture and keeps the air going in and out.

  2. Using a good helmet is a good thing to do in order to be safe while riding a bike and care the life of cyclists. I sometimes see people riding on the street with no helmet. I think it must be a law to use it. You made a great review, the one I prefer is the JBM Adult Cycling Helmet, it is well ventilated, impact resistant and has a very good looking. I like the purple and yellow 😉

      Thank you for kinds words.

Yes, it always sad to see people don´t use a helmet. In some countries, it is a law about it. The point is that you should think first an about the safety. Using a helmet is in some way like you use fasten seat belt when you are in a car because of the security. Like about helmet it can be circumstances that it would be better not to use the fasten seat belt or helmet. But in most cases, it is safer and should be in priority.

  3. Thank you for sharing the best helmets for protection.

I always believe that in every activity we do, our safety should be our first priority, moreso when riding a bike. My dad got my youngest brother a bike for his 15th birthday next week. He was going to buy a helmet too but I volunteered to take care of it. But I don’t know which one to buy as I have no idea which kinds are the best.

Among the three that you reviewed, Razor V-17 seems like the perfect fit for my brother. And he can use it for other activities other than biking, that’s just great. You mentioned an extra padding that he can use if the helmet is not comfortable or tight enough, but it does not come with an instruction on how to use it. I just hope it would be easy to figure out exactly how to do it.

By the way, how do we clean a helmet? Can we soak the whole thing in water?

    • Hi, Alice and thank you.

I agree the safety should be in priority and helmet play their big part.

It is for sure not ideal that the instructions don´t come with Razor V-17. And right as the helmets are it is necessary to let it come with the helmets. The advice I can give about it is to contact them directly about the information.  The Factory contact information is at 1-800-451-KENT (5368) or http://www.kentbicycles.com.

When you clean the bike helmets, you should use a mild soap and water. Sometimes come recommended from the brands how to do it and if so you should use their advice. But it usually is great to use a mild soap and water as I mentioned before.

  5. I once used JBM adult cycling helmet before. I actually didn’t have a problem with adjusting the strap since I’m always after for high-quality and reliable helmet. What I found was hard about this helmet was when I wore my hair in a ponytail since I had long hair then. Anyway, awesome review of those quality helmets.
