What Does MIPS Mean on a Helmet?
Multi-directional Impact Protection System (MIPS) is a brain protection system incorporated between the EPS foam liner and comfort padding of a helmet. It is a slid-plane inner layer that allows for 10 to 15 mm rotational movement between the head and helmet within 10 to 15 milliseconds of a collision. MIPS technology is the brainchild of Hans von Holst, a Swedish neurosurgeon.
