5 Best Mountain Biking Helmets On Amazon Reviewed

Fox Racing Speedframe Pro Mountain Bike Helmet

The Fox Racing Speedframe Pro Mountain Bike Helmet is designed to provide top-tier protection and comfort for mountain bikers. Known for its high-performance gear, Fox Racing has equipped this helmet with advanced technologies that cater to both amateur and professional riders.

The Speedframe Pro boasts an in-mold construction. This seamlessly fuses the outer shell with the inner EPS foam liner. This construction method directly bonds the polycarbonate outer shell to the EPS foam liner during molding.

Thus creating a single, cohesive unit. This integration enhances the helmet’s structural integrity and impact resistance.

This helmet also features Dual-Density Varizorb EPS. It’s a unique foam material designed to absorb and dissipate impact forces. The Varizorb EPS consists of multiple foam layers with varying densities.

This layered approach allows the helmet to manage different levels of impact energy more effectively. Thus offering superior shock absorption.

Moreover, by spreading out the force of an impact across a broader surface area, this dual-density foam reduces the concentration of force. As a result, you enjoy enhanced safety in the event of a crash.

Equipped with MIPS (Multi-Directional Impact Protection System), the Speedframe Pro provides advanced protection against rotational forces. MIPS incorporates a low-friction layer inside the helmet.

This layer allows the outer shell to rotate slightly relative to the head during angled impacts. This mimics the brain’s own protective mechanism.

The helmet includes a sophisticated ventilation system to keep riders cool and comfortable. Strategically placed vents and internal airflow channels facilitate efficient air circulation. Thus preventing overheating by allowing fresh air to flow in and hot air to escape.

The Fidlock SNAP buckle system provides secure and convenient fastening. This buckle system uses magnets to close and secure the helmet strap automatically.

It can be easily opened with one hand, even with gloves on. Thus offering both security and convenience.

This magnetic closure also ensures a quick and effortless adjustment. It provides a snug fit that stays in place throughout the ride.

What are the key differences between MIPS and other impact protection systems in mountain bike helmets

Giro Fixture Bike Helmet

Do you love a functional mountain bike helmet? Then the Giro Fixture Bike Helmet is your best pick.

Indeed, Giro has painstakingly put together various features to make this helmet safe, comfortable and long-lasting. And, the shell gets its safety approval from the Consumer Product Safety Commission, a reputable regulatory body in the US.

The Giro Fixture Bike Helmet is an open face helmet with in-mold construction. In other words, the helmet’s inner EPS foam undergoes heating to fuse it to the outer shell.

This type of build ensures there are no spaces between the inner and outer shell that can compromise the rider’s safety in the event of a crash.

This helmet uses the Roc Loc Sport MIPS fitting system. It is one of the latest technology in the bike safety industry.

With this design, there is minimal rotational force on the head, a leading cause of brain injury during a crash. So in the event of an impact, the helmet will slide at an angle that offers maximum brain protection.

Do you find it hard to get your right helmet size? If so, the Giro Fixture Bike helmet suits you best. This helmet has a universal fitting construction.

In particular, the shell has an easy to adjust mechanism that makes it fit most head sizes. Both children and adults can wear the same helmet straight from the box.

There are at least 18 vents spread out all over the helmet. These openings allow for free air flow around the head.

In the same way, they help to keep the head free from sweat as you tackle a long stretch in the woods or when riding in the hot summer.

Finally, the Giro Fixture Bike Helmet uses a removable sun visor. This accessory shields the rider’s eyes from dust, direct sun rays, strong winds and objects along the trail. It is available in four attractive color schemes.

Rowan adult helmet has 14 strategically locally vents for proper air circulation to keep you cool, especially during hot, mountainous rides.

And if dirt makes your fists clench, this helmet got you covered. The interior padding is removable and washable.

And since it’s quick-drying, you can wash it after every ride for that fresh feel and to keep the grease in check.

The outer in-mold polycarbonate shell makes it sturdy yet light enough to wear all day long.

To give you more confidence in the brand, this helmet is certified by the relevant sports authority (European Cycling Standard) under EN1078 and the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) department, as well as the Glass Manufacturing Standards regulation (CPSC 16).

People also ask:

What features should I look for in a mountain bike helmet for enduro riding?

Enduro riding requires a helmet that provides enhanced protection, especially around the ears, temples, and back of the head.

Features like MIPS (Multi-directional Impact Protection System) and dual-density EPS foam are important for safety. Helmets like the Fox Dropframe Pro, which offer extended coverage and are well-ventilated, are particularly suited for enduro riding.

Are there mountain bike helmets with integrated safety technology for remote riding?

Yes, some helmets, like the POC Kortal Race, come equipped with integrated safety technologies such as an NFC Medical ID chip and a RECCO Reflector. These features can be critical in remote riding situations, allowing rescuers to locate you more quickly in case of an accident.

What is the difference between a full-face and a half-shell mountain bike helmet?

Like the Smith Mainline MIPS, a full-face helmet provides maximum protection, covering the entire face, chin, and head, making it ideal for downhill and aggressive trail riding.

In contrast, a half-shell helmet offers less coverage, focusing on protecting the top and sides of the head. This type of helmet is more suitable for cross-country or trail riding, where breathability and lightness are prioritized.

What are the key differences between MIPS and other impact protection systems in mountain bike helmets?

MIPS (Multi-directional Impact Protection System) is a technology designed to reduce rotational forces on the brain during an impact. It allows the helmet to rotate slightly relative to the head, which can decrease the risk of serious brain injuries.

Other systems, like KinetiCore by Lazer, use crumple zones within the helmet’s foam to absorb impact forces differently. Understanding these differences can help you choose the best protection for your riding style.

  1. We’ve recently got my father a mountain bike (the same model as mine) for a bit of cardio in his life. The problem is that he’s aiming to travel along footpaths and roads with the bike, as he’s over 70 and he’s not up for cross country ride, which is fair enough!

I’m wondering which of the helmets you have covered above are best suited and safest for road riding, as opposed to mountain and dirt track riding?

  4. Wow great review here on mountain bike helmets! A mountain bike helmet is one of the most important pieces of equipment to have when mountain biking. Chance of falling increases so dramatically, which also makes it a lot more exciting. I think for some fun trail riding I like the Giro Fixture, not too bulky, great design and looks pretty light. As for more extreme riding I really like the Bell Super 3R’s design and protection. I’ll save your post and reference it to a few friends, well done!

  6. Hello,

I found your article very interesting and especially the way you explain the benefits of each product separately. I do believe that the helmet is to protect the head, but especially the brain, which is one of the most complex and sensitive organs of the human body.

I found Kask rex MTB the most appropriate for me and everyone due to its hard construction and for its colour. I think it is good to be in white or have intense colors to be more distinct than others, drivers, pedestrians or cyclists. Would you suggest helmets with these colours I mentioned?

      Thanks a lot , Thodoris.

  9. Great to read this post so simple & to the point. Those helmets look stylish too (as far as helmets being that goes!) I have been bicycling as an adult for the last 12 year’s. I have a road bike now, but it was mountain biking for 10 years prior. Honestly, I never wore a helmet. But I have looked and considered it.

Your article seems to be a go-to for people in the market for a helmet. I personally am one of those “puts hours in” researching what I want to buy. But I don’t always have the time, and if you give me a top 5 list and I figured you already did the research, it is nice just to check out your list. What I always look for is the best quality for the lowest price. But when it comes to protecting yourself, especially your head, just go with the beat!
I also read motorcycles for years and always wore a helmet. I guess another reason I didn’t or don’t wear a helmet is that I’m not going hard-core. But even know I’m considering it because where I live is bike-friendly and I hear a lot of bad accident stories. I don’t want to be a statistic. Thanks for the info, and I’d probably go with the Smith’s. Good luck with your site and excellent article!

I highly recommend that I always use a helmet. It is more security even so it doesn´t defend you from all danger! Far from it. But we need to save the head as much as possible.

Although I admit, I don’t think I used it to its full potential, as I only biked in the city and around parks. I never knew how many of it’s features I took for granted until I read about it in this article. Makes me want to start biking again.
