Verdict

All three shoes can be considered outstanding in their own aspects. They are generally comfortable, flexible, and offer great support, especially for those with supination.

Nevertheless, out of the three, the best running shoes for supination is the Brooks Men’s Glycerin 16. While the ASICS Men’s Gel-Quantum 180 3 Running Shoe and the Saucony Echelon 7 provide comfort and maximum cushioning, the Brooks Men’s Glycerin 16 is a total package.

This pair is very comfy, even after long runs, and it is shock-absorbing, too. The great design and look are added points, as well.

All in all, the durability and quality of the structure of this running shoe is superb. It provides comfort and allows the feet to move freely as well. And despite its narrow fit, we can say that it is a great buy and should definitely have a slot on your shoe rack.

  1. I love the Gel Quantum shoes, being that they’re lightweight and packed with extra cushioning. For me, it’d be the ideal brand. One of the pros you stated is that this is a durable shoe. If one is running regularly, say, four days a week, at 4-5 miles per bout, how often should they consider changing the shoes?

    • Hello, Todd Matthews, and thank you.

Thank you for your kind words.

There are many factors which come in the decision when it is right to change running shoes — factors like your body weight, where you run with the surface in mind etc.

The Gel Quantum shoes is a great shoe, no question about that.

But the thumb rules every 300-400 miles.

  2. Well done in bringing to light these different running shoe options for those affected by supination. From what I understand, supination occurs when weight is placed on the outsides of the feet. In this case, sneakers such as these become extremely valuable. You’ve provided an excellent list here. My favorites are the Brooks Men’s Glycerin 19s as they look great and provide exceptional cushioning and the Saucony Women’s Echelon 7s as they too look great and seem super comfy as well. I know a few people with supination and I will definitely be referring them to your site, excellent shoes here!

Thank you for your kind words.

Yes, supination can lead to the ankle rolling entirely over because it places a significant strain on the muscles and tendons that stabilize the ankle.

  3. I really like the ASIC´s Men Gel-Venture, especially because it has a gel cushioning. I have trouble finding the right running shoes, not because of supination, but because my left big toe is longer than my right big toe. A shoe that fits me perfectly on the right is too tight on the big toe of my left foot. If I buy shoes that are a size bigger, then they are too loose on the right foot. So, for running, that would be a problem. Do you have any suggestions for that? I am not much of a long distance runner, but I absolutely love hurdle running, and so I need to have firm fitting shoes.

The Saucony Echelon 7 is lovely, it has a beautiful design, and I love the color. The one con you mentioned is that it is not durable enough. So, how long could they last if I run only on weekends?

This is a very informative article. Since I have problems finding the right shoes (because of the different sizes of my toes), I always take ages to choose my shoes. That’s why articles like this one are so helpful for me. They help me to know what to look out for, what to pay attention to, and I get some great suggestions, which saves me a lot of shopping time (I am not a fan of hours shopping 😉 )

Thank you for sharing this! Very helpful!

    • Hello, Christine, and thank you.

Thank you for your kinds words.

It is great to hear about the benefits of the article.

About The Saucony Echelon 7; they will be great for a very long time if you use it only on the weekends.

But about the toe problem. I haven´t think about this before and feel it very interesting even so I am at the same time sad that you have this problem.

So in these moments, I´m sorry about not being able to help you. I will research it carefully. But I would recommend one thing. The shoe size needed to be control of the left big toe. And I believe that you should have a very good chance to use a thicker sock with the shoe with the smaller toe. Or fill up with a similar method. I hope it works for you.

  4. This is a really good review about running shoes. I have always had a hard time finding running shoes that work for me, or just regular shoes for that matter. My feet always hurt when I buy new shoes, and I have to break them in.

What does it mean to have supination? I have not heard of that before.

    Thank you!

    • Hi, Reggie, and thank you.

Thank you for your kind words.

Supination or under supination means that your foot has most of its load on the outside of the foot, which is not very common. Around 7-8% have this problem.

It means that your foot or feet sink outwards at the ankle joint.

We have many posts about pronation which is the opposite and most common. It means that the foot sinks inwards. Because of that, the pressure is on the inside of your foot.

Here is, for example, a post about pronation shoes and what it is.

Great to hear about your benefit of the article too.

  5. Hey, this is a basic question, but what exactly is supination? Two of us at home have been having trouble with our feet, and we’re trying to narrow down the cause.

I always look for durable and comfortable shoes, so hopefully, that is a good start. I need to see about some more good women’s options.
