Buyer’s Guide
When you want shoes to walk on concrete, it is essential to understand all the crucial aspects before you settle on your next pair.
Comfort
The most important aspect of all is comfort. Walking on concrete for a long time can be uncomfortable; add additional factors like a warm climate, and then the whole experience is just frustrating.
To ensure you are completely comfortable with your walking shoes, look for a mesh upper.
It will allow your feet to breathe while providing ventilation throughout the shoe.
Also, pay attention to the insoles. It is where your foot sits, so it must be made from a highly comfortable material.
We recommend looking for extra cushioning or brand-specific technology.
Style
The next factor you should consider is the style of the walking shoes.
While style may not be everything, it does play a part in finding the right pair.
If you are looking for more support, then we recommend looking for a boot-style pair of walking shoes.
It will provide ample support to the ankles and prevent sore feet after hours of walking around in them.
Slip-on is the next popular style of walking shoes. They are incredibly practical.
You can wear them casually, to work, or even when you exercise.
You also need to consider whether you prefer walking shoes with laces or without them.
Both of them have their own set of upsides and downsides.
Stability
Stability is a crucial factor if you spend several hours a day walking on concrete. A majority of it comes from the shoe’s sole.
We recommend looking for walking shoes that come with anti-slip features, but this may depend on where you will be wearing them.
You can also consider checking out synthetic or rubber soles. These will provide you with a ton of stability and, to a certain extent, can even improve motor skills.
Support
The last important factor to look for in a walking shoe is support. Having a high-quality pair of walking shoes with the perfect amount of support can be a life-changer.
It can prevent joint pain drastically and stop the feet from feeling fatigued.
Having the right amount of support can make the difference between a good night’s sleep and just tossing and turning all night long.
You can find support in the shoe’s collar and the insole too.
While you could always add an insole separately in the future, we recommend buying a pair that comes with great support.
What Are Some of The Health Effects from Walking on Concrete?
Are you doing more harm than good when you walk every morning on the side walk? While walking is an excellent way of keeping fit and staying healthy, the surfaces on which you achieve it should be reconsidered. Walking on concreate accentuates the high impact nature of walking and can precipitate injury. By varying terrains and spacing your walks, you can ensure your body remains injury free.
So, what is Wrong with Concrete?
Joint problems especially the feet, knees and hips.
Don’t be alarmed. This mainly happens to people who spend a better part of their life standing or walking on concrete floors. The most commonly reported issue amongst such persons is plantar fasciitis, an inflammation of the tissue that connects the toes to the heel. Its such a painful condition that patients can become immobile if not treated. It also requires such patients to take breaks from the concrete or even sit down for the treatment to work.
Since concrete floors are mostly even, your feet tend to recreate the same plant all the time. This repeated stress and shock eventually transfers upwards especially to your lower back and neck. So, before you complain about persistent back pain, find out if it is as a result of your daily morning walks.
A better alternative to concrete is soil terrains or even your treadmill. You get to enjoy the benefits of walking without putting your feet at risk.
Remember, the only wrong thing with concrete is that it’s a hard surface with an even terrain. As long as you wear good sport shoes and spend only a few minutes on concrete, you will be just fine. But if you can avoid it all together, that would be the most ideal.

It is a very good list of shoes for walking on concrete. I have a lot of experience with this. I run about 15 miles a week, and I can tell a big difference between when I run on dirt trails and when I run on concrete. Concrete hurts my knees, shins, and hips, so a good shoe is indeed essential. My go-to shoe is Brooks running shoes, but they are pretty expensive. For my normal walking, the everyday shoe, I always go with New Balance to agree with your final pick.
