are skechers memory foam shoes good for walking

To enjoy your walks around the neighborhood, you need a reliable pair of walking shoes to protect and support your feet from the hard ground.

That said, are Skechers memory foam shoes good for walking?

Memory foam shoes have become popular these days because they provide your feet with great comfort and support.

Buying them also won’t cause a dent in your pocket, as these new-generation shoes come at a bargain.

Even so, it doesn’t mean that they are a good fit for everyone.

What Is Memory Foam for Shoes?

Memory foam shoes have a specialized insole made with a material popularly used in mattresses and sofas.

This polyurethane material provides excellent support and pressure relief because they conform to the shape of the body.

NASA first developed the technology, and it is astounding to see that the same material is now used in the footwear industry.

Skechers is one of the most popular brands when it comes to memory foam shoes.

That’s because it focuses on memory foam insoles, which you will find in most of the brand’s latest shoe models.

What Are the Benefits of Skechers Memory Foam Shoes?

There are many benefits that come with wearing memory foam shoes, but there are also disadvantages to using them.

To give you an idea of how they will perform when used for walking, let’s talk about the advantages first.

This way, you can gauge for yourself whether or not the pros outweigh the cons.

Increased Comfort

Memory foam shoes are like modern-day magic. They take the shape of your feet when you wear them and provide a soft cushion to ensure comfort.

As a result, they also help you maintain balance.

Foot Pain Relief

Wearing uncomfortable shoes is the primary cause of foot pains, but memory foam shoes might just be the solution.

These shoes ease arch pain, heel pain, and plantar fasciitis and relieve pressure and pain caused by corns, spurs, and neuroma.

If you have any of these conditions, you will benefit from wearing memory foam shoes for walking.

Increased Overall Efficiency

You will find memory foam shoes very beneficial if you are someone who is always on his feet.

Since your feet are comfortable and supported, it only follows that you’d be able to move more efficiently.

As such, these shoes are a favorite among those who work in hospitals, restaurants, and others where they need to be active.

Decreased Pressure on the Feet

One of the primary jobs of memory foam shoes is to relieve pressure on the feet.

That’s because due to gravity, the weight of your body puts pressure on your feet with every step you take.

Your feet carry your entire weight, and everyday shoes with a hard insole will not efficiently absorb such pressure.

This is the main culprit of most foot pains.

Memory foam shoes help absorb that pressure, and then they release it. The shoes bounce back when you elevate your feet to free the energy.

Takes in Heel Shock

Memory foam shoes include arch support that takes in heel shocks. This arch support also refines your stability and balance.

Reduced Fatigue

Weight and pressure cause foot fatigue and are heightened by the amount of time your feet are under that pressure.

The more fatigue your feet is under, the more damage they receive. This is where memory foam insoles come in handy, as they lessen the fatigue your feet experience.

Another benefit of wearing memory foam shoes is their comfort due to their ample cushioning.

Thanks to this enhanced comfort, your feet will take longer to get tired.

What Are the Disadvantages of Skechers Memory Foam Shoes?

Memory foam shoes are comfortable for some and unpleasant for others.

Here are possible disadvantages you can experience when wearing memory foam shoes for walking long distances:

Knee Pain

How you use your feet can affect your other body parts. For instance, an issue in your feet can cause knee pain, back pain, hip pain, and even back pain.

The same goes if you have a problem with your other body parts. It will affect your feet because your brain tries to minimize the pain.

This is where the concern with memory foam shoes starts.

Depending on how hard or how long you wear them, they can be bad for you.

You will not notice the gradual deterioration of the foam because your brain adjusts as cushioning and support slowly disappear.

You may also not notice that your gait and posture have changed to the point of no return. You will only see it once you feel pain in your feet, knee, or back.

This is not good because you will need new and better-suited shoes plus some time to recover and repair the damage.

This is a common problem with shoes that do not have detachable insoles, and many of Skechers’ memory foam shoes have insoles you cannot remove.

Become Smelly

Memory foam shoes can become smelly, and there are some reasons behind this.

The foam consists of unique materials, and it causes the shoe to emit a certain kind of smell.

Also, the material used in memory foam retains heat.

This is not good, particularly in footwear, because it will cause sweaty feet, and we all know sweaty feet will make your shoe smell.

To fix this, shoe manufacturers incorporate gel beads into the foam.

They change their form to liquid when the heat builds up in your shoes, helping cool down your feet.

Are Skechers Memory Foam Shoes Good for Walking?

So, are Skechers memory foam shoes good for walking? In a nutshell, they can be both bad and good depending on the wearer.

Imagine walking on soft sand; this is how you’ll feel when walking with a Skechers memory foam shoes on.

If you suffer foot ailments or generally need a cushion on your feet, memory foam shoes are good for you.

However, if you are flat-footed, it would be best to choose structured shoes.

Wearing Memory Foam Shoes During Walks

There is no doubt that memory foam has contributed to a giant leap in footwear technology.

It allows people with foot ailments to walk, run, and do their daily tasks comfortably, with less pain and more efficiency.

However, all things have their purpose and the right fit. And that is also true for memory foam shoes.

All in all, they can be good for you if you are the right fit for this breathtaking technology.

  2. Hi, thank you for providing valuable insight about Sketchers Memory Foam Shoes, and whether they are good for walking. What I see is that the decision will depend on whether there are any underlying problems with one considering using them. Does he/she have knee pains? how does one feel when he/she walks as though he/she was on sand? and so forth? Other than these, I think the pros far out way the cons, and personally, I will go for them. Thank you once again for this post.

  3. I think my just about my entire shoe wardrobe consists of Skechers. I am a dance teacher, and these are the only shoes that I can stand In all day without getting sore feet.
I have collapsed arches and do wear supports in some of my shoes, but must admit I haven’t had knee pain as much since changing to Skechers. I also haven’t noticed a bad smell coming from my memory foam Skechers.
