Features

The product features a breathable mesh on its upper side that provides ventilation while reducing heat and moisture inside the footwear. On the other hand, the outsole has the Contragrip technology for a superb grip.

The running shoe boasts of Salomon’s Sensifit and Sensiflex technology as well. The Sensifit technology cradles the upper instep. Thus, providing a secure and precise fit that aids in the promotion of natural rolling motion. Meanwhile, the Sensiflex technology gives lateral support and stretch for the forefoot to allow the foot to expand while running. The Sensiflex feature also gives a smooth transition from heel striking to toe-offing.

The running shoe also has a footbed with cushioning foam. This design reduces friction for the comfort of the runner. The heel has EVA for additional cushioning when the heel is striking.

The product also has a Quicklace system that offers a minimalist design. This means runners can easily tighten the laces in one pull. There is also a lace pocket to keep laces out of the runner’s way.

The product maker patented the Sensifit, Sensiflex, Contragrip, and Quicklace technology.

Summary

The Salomon Women’s XR Mission Running Shoe boasts of various patented technology to make running a comfortable task.

For one, it has the Sensifit technology that provides a precise fit for easy rolling motion. There is also the Sensiflex technology that offers lateral support for the forefoot, a feature that allows the foot to expand while running. This technology also provides an easy transition from heel-striking to toe-offing.

This running shoe also has the Contragrip for a better grip on dirt roads as well as the Quicklace technology for easy tightening of the laces.

The product, however, is not without flaws. The shoe has no arch support, and its sides are a bit high. Plus, its shoelaces are too thin and could break easily if pulled to hard. One might also have some difficulties placing the laces on the pockets.

Comparison

Some products are highly similar to the Salomon Women’s XR Mission Running Shoe.

For example, the AlLa Sportiva Ultra Raptor Women's Running Shoe also claims to be a great companion for running trails. This product also has a highly breathable air mesh fabric that helps keep the feet cool and help control moisture. This is similar to the breathable mesh of the product being reviewed.

Both trail running shoes have designs that pay attention to the grip. The Salomon footwear has the Contragrip technology while the La Sportiva uses Vibram soles with high grip treads for rocky surfaces.

The La Sportiva has ankle support, which the product under review does not offer. On the other hand, the Salomon trail running shoes have the Quicklace technology, which the La Sportiva does not boast of. Both shoes are on the same price range.

Another highly similar competitor is the Altra AFW1855F Women's Lone Peak 4.0 Trail Running Shoe. This product like the Salomon shoe pays attention to its grip as its outsole boasts of a MaxTrac rubber. This feature makes running on difficult surfaces seem easy and functions the same as the Contragrip technology.

The Altra running shoe boasts of the foot-shaped toe box feature, which allows the runner’s toes to spread out naturally and relax while running. This feature is highly similar to Salomon’s Sensiflex technology. The Altra trail shoe also has the Fit4Her technology, which is similar to the Sensifit technology as both allow for a precise fit to the runner’s feet.

The Altra AFW1855F Women’s Lone Peak 4.0 Trail Running Shoe has the 4-point gaiter trap feature that helps prevent debris from building up under the shoe. This feature is not available for the product we are reviewing.

Salomon Women’s XR Mission Running Shoe has cushioning on its footbed. Meanwhile, the Altra trail running footwear has the A-Bound cushioning, which has an energy-return compound that is located under the foot. This feature reduces ground impact.

There is a big difference in the design of the upper part of the footwear. Both products’ upper have breathable fabrics. But Altra has a static webbing cinch strap located at the midfoot. It also has drainage holes and sandpaper-textured toe cap. These design details are unfortunately unavailable in the Salomon footwear.

Verdict

The Salomon Women's XR Mission Running Shoe is well-designed footwear that can make running under challenging trails a pleasurable and comfortable task. This product boasts of several patented technologies, namely the Sensifit, Sensiflex, Contragrip, and Quicklace. These features provide better comfort, grip, and ease of use. But are these features enough reason to buy this product?

This footwear suffers minor flaws. For example, some runners may not like the shoe’s sides as they tend to reach the ankles. Plus, the Quicklace technology is not much of an add-on. Runners will not particularly go for this shoe just because of this technology. Fortunately, the Salomon Women’s XR Mission Running Shoe can compete with similarly priced trail running shoes. Thus, it may be worth it for serious trail runners to consider this product.

Yes, I like the design too. Very modern.

The technology part is very good. Like most/all shoes they have their cons but all over it is a good running shoe with a good grip.

It is true that women will not get this shoe because of the technology part. But it is the technology part which plays a huge rule about their shoes are as good as it is.

But you are right; this is an excellent shoe to un, stability, and comfort.

  3. I have heard a lot about Altra shoes in the past but I have never heard about the Salomon shoes until now. I love the look of the shoe from the photo you inserted in your article. I know looks aren’t necessarily the most important thing but, dang that shoe looks awesome!

Thanks for providing such a thorough review for this product. I am curious about one of the cons. You listed that the laces are too thin. Why is this an issue? Does it mean that the laces break all the time? I’m assuming you could easily replace them with thicker laces.

In any case, I’m somewhat hesitant to purchase things like shoes online simply because I like to wear them on my feet and get a feel for them before I buy them. But thanks to your review I feel comfortable trying some out, especially because it is so easy to return things to Amazon so I could do that easily if they don’t work out for me.

    • Hi, Mariah and thank you.

Thank you for your kind words.

You are not the only one who don´t know Salomon shoes a lot. It is not the most known company comparing at brands like Adidas and Nike for example.

But they made excellent running shoes. It is an old company which started in 1947. It begins with ski edges workshop, and their focus was on ski the first descents of years.

But in 2001 they started with running shoes and have had success in it even so they have never forgotten their proper ski equipment either.

But about the laces. It has from the start been the goal of the site to help the readers as much as possible, both about advice, and review of a good product. I say good because I think it is more beneficial for the readers and subscripts to been letting know about a good product rather than.

But having said that, I try too to find out what help people best to decide if they like the product or not. And that is the reason for I mention laces in the cons and mention that some people have a problem with it.

The laces are thin and because of it some people who are used to pull hard (you know that it can be difficult to change habits). One might also have some difficulties placing the laces on the pockets.

But like I mention the Quicklace technology for easy tightening of the laces. And you are right; you can change it for a thicker one.

Yes, one of many benefits with buying shoes from Amazon is that you can quickly change the shoes or return if it doesn´t fit well enough.

Salomon comes from Franche, the beautiful city of Annecy. Stable company from the year of 1947. In the first descents years, they focus on ski equipment, but their first running shoes come in 2001 and have been a good quality all the time.

  6. I really love the design and colour of this shoe. I’m very sure my wife will be very happy if I get her Salomon women’s xr mission running shoe which I will get for her as a surprise despite the technology because the technology plays the major role in the shoe. This shoe is actually good for running although you said it has it’s flaws.

  7. The Salomon Women’s XR Mission Running Shoe Product Review  which you talked about is very eye-opening. I specifically love its feature of being able to expand while running, also its colorful and sleek design as seen in the image you uploaded. Though amongst the cons you listed about the lace being too thin, as for me i don’t really see that as an issue, infact i prefer foot wears with thin laces. Thanks so much for this informative post, it has really being helpful, i hope to read more subsequent posts from you

For most people, the thin laces is not a problem bur for it is. That is the reason I mention it.

But this is a great shoe, that is for sure.

  8. Choosing any type of footwear isn’t an easy task for most people. I read some time ago that that was the reason why Tony Hsieh founded Zappos, because he had a hard time finding shoes that fit comfortably. My younger sister just started a jogging program and is still using an old trainer because she simply hasn’t found a more comfortable replacement. The problem is she has a foot that is broad at the toes and find most running shoes too compacted for comfort. She prefers a shoe made from beatheable uppers. Since the Salomon Women’s XR Mission Running Shoes offers features that allow for foot expansion, I believe this would make the perfect replacement she has been looking for. The quicklace technology is also a big plus as she often struggles to lace her shoes correctly. Can you suggest good running socks to go with these shoes?

    • Hi, phranell86 and thank you.

Great to hear about your benefit of the article. The problem your sister has is well known and can be tricky to find good shoes. On the same time, it is crucial to feeling comfortable when you use the shoes, both because of performance and motivation.

And I agree with you about quicQuicklace technology; I like it too a lot.

About the running shoes, yes I can help you with it. I wrote a review about some of the best running socks for men and women which you can see here. I´m sure that you will find good running socks there, very good items there.

  9. Using technology for footwear seems to be the trend now. This technology improves user experience and athletic activities. The Salomon Women’s XR Mission Running Shoe is no different. Reading through these features you listed makes this shoe one of the best shoes for women out there in my opinion.

I can personally overlook these Cons because the Pros vividly outweighs them. It even offers more advantages over other products.

This is a great product. I would recommend it for anyone.

    I love this review.

    Cheers,

    Sammy.

Thank you, Sammy, for your kind words.

Technology is more than a trend now; it is a critical factor to made good shoes at all. There are many good products on the market now. But the difference between it is the small but significant details. Most of it comes around the technology.

  10. First off, I like the colors on the Salomon Women’s XR Mission Running Shoe and of course the patented technologies make it attractive too. The fact that it is an ankle shoe and the quicklace is kind of difficult to use is going to be a big downside for me if I had to make a choice.  I would say I really like the 4-ponit gaiter trap feature that comes with the Altra AFW1855F Women’s Lone Peak 4.0 Trail and the  Salomon Women’s XR Mission Running Shoe might have stood a big chance if it had that feature too. All in all, nice shoes. Great and unbiased product review.

Thank you for your kind words.

One of the great thing with the sports equipment is what fit one doesn´t necessarily fit for others.

If I can help you with anything else, or if you have any questions, don´t hesitate to contact me. Both Altra AFW1855F Women’s Lone Peak 4.0 Trail ans Salomon Women’s XR Mission Running Shoe is excellent shoes but has some different details which have this effect, that can fit for different types of people.

And it is important to find you, through knowledge an not the least experience what fit your body and goals best.

But having said that I must say that I disagree about the Quicklace technology in the sense that it is straightforward and helpful to use.

If I can help you with anything else, or if you have any questions, don´t hesitate to contact me.
