2. WILSON 2023 A500 Youth Baseball Glove

WILSON 2023 A500 Youth Baseball Glove

Features

The WILSON 2023 A500 Youth Baseball Glove is a top-quality glove perfect for your youth player. It is made with premium leather that is soft and durable. See, the glove is made of full-grain leather that is pre-oiled for a soft, supple feel. The lacing is also made of full-grain leather for strength and durability, while the palm and webbing are made of synthetic leather for a softer feel. The binding and trim are made of synthetic leather for added durability. Generally, the glove has a comfortable, soft feel and is built to last.

The glove is made via dual welting. Welting is a construction technique in which a strip of leather or other material is sewn to the edge of a piece of fabric. This strip is then turned over and sewn to the other side of the fabric, creating a finished edge. Dual welting is a variation of this technique in which two strips of material are used instead of one.

Dual welting is often used on gloves, as it provides a finished edge that is both strong and attractive. It is also used on other items of clothing, such as jackets and pants. Dual welting can be done by hand or by machine, and the finished product is typically very sturdy.

One key feature that sets Wilson gloves apart is the Dual Welting. This unique construction method reinforces the glove’s structure and provides better support and durability. In addition, it also creates a pocket that helps keep the ball in the glove for better control.

Since the glove is built for young players, it provides a good fit for smaller hands. The A500 also has a nice, deep pocket that is perfect for catching fly balls. However, with their youthful energy, these gloves are prone to wear and tear. The padding is also lighter. While this makes the glove more manageable for younger players, there may be better options for beginners who are more prone to injuries.

Nonetheless, the glove features a reinforced palm and index finger for added protection. The glove is also equipped with a Velcro strap for a secure fit, and the mesh back allows for breathability and flexibility.

PROS

  • It is very comfortable and has a great feel
  • The glove is also very durable
  • Excellent construction
  • Very easy to break in

CONS

  • Not well padded

How to Choose the Right Baseball Glove for Your Child

For most people, buying the right baseball glove can be daunting. It’s even harder for the little ones at a professional level because most manufacturers focus on the young beginners. In a nutshell, this is how to choose the right baseball glove for your child:

For pro players, invest in a good quality glove, even if it comes at an extra cost. This will enhance your kid’s performance and hopefully transition them into little champions. How to Choose the Right Baseball Glove for Your Child

Fit Is Important

Youth gloves are designed with a smaller wrist and finger opening to enable them to maintain glove control. They also have wrist adjustments such as Velcro for an even tighter yet comfortable fit. In addition, most youth gloves are designed for multiple users. However, they have a reference-sizing guide for each hand size.

It’s also important to note that some youth gloves have an oversized pockets. This is designed for beginners. However, don’t buy an oversized glove thinking that your kid will grow into it. Such a glove might discourage them from playing baseball because they find it hard to maintain control since they keep falling off the hand as they play.

So before you start wondering why “little Mike” can’t keep his baseball gloves on like other kids, revisit the youth sizing chart. Just buy the perfect fit from day 1 to avoid needless pain.

Focus On Throw and Position

Which hand does your kid use to throw? This determines whether you buy a “right-hand or left-hand throw” glove. Similarly, different player positions have different shape and size of gloves. Ensure you match your kid’s position with the right glove.

For kids playing multiple positions, invest in a utility glove (slightly larger than an infielder’s glove).

Kids who have advanced more into the game have difficulties fitting in a pro-quality glove. However, there is a special glove called the Pro Taper Series glove. They are high-quality gloves with narrower finger stalls.

Rawlings has this category in selected series like the Dual Core Pro Tapers and the Gold Glove. In fact, any Rawlings glove with the model name ending with a “PT” means it has a tighter fit. Wilson has these tight-fitting gloves in their A1K series.

Other Extras

Most youth gloves are designed to break in easily. Some have a notch in the heel to facilitate correct breaking-in. They are also easy to wash and maintain. Because, naturally, kids are not meticulous, it’s important that you find a glove you can wash and maintain regularly with ease.

Budget

For kids who outgrow things faster, investing in “fairly-priced” gloves is wiser. This way, you avoid the temptation of buying an oversized glove. In addition, once your kid outgrows the current glove, you can comfortably afford the next size.

can you wash baseball gloves in the washer

Conclusion

Whereas affordability is often mistaken for low quality, there are high-quality baseball gloves in the market retailing below $100. As you shop for these gloves, go for features that do not compromise quality for the price. Now that we’ve discussed what is the best baseball gloves under $100, ensure you pick gloves with the best material, web pattern, size, and overall performance. Such gloves will never disappoint in the field.

  1. I just came across this site while browsing the net, and it brought back memories of my college days when we played baseball, or rather softball. I like the fact that you explained in great detail all the features of the baseball gloves that cost less than $100 and explained the pros and the cons as well. I also like the fact that you included a good range of related products and given the vast choice, I would say WILSON A700 BASEBALL GLOVE SERIES is the best choice, as it has the best features and provides the best value for money. Would you agree?.

I think he will love WIlson A900 glove, and it’s good that this glove is also suitable for left-handed player. Just in case, is there any additional concern when buying a glove for left-handed player? Thanks

The only thing you need to have in mind, about the glove, is that left-hand player throw of course with his left hand, so the glove is in his right hand.

  3. I played baseball as a young child but never on a team or in a league. More than likely my parent would never spend this much on a baseball glove but I would have loved to have one. We always had the cheaper baseball gloves from K-mart but honestly, they work pretty well.

Why should someone choose to purchase these baseball gloves over say a glove for $10 – $20? Why are these glove so special?

    • Hello, Salvatore V Jenkins Jr., and thank you.

We always need to think about the budget, and that is a significant thing to do, not only here but always in life. One of the goals with this site is to help people to find necessary gear for all kind of budget and all kind of ambition.

Because using the right gear can help a lot about the performance.

But there are more things which come in the picture that the number in the price label. It can be cheaper to use better quality things because most of the time you can use it longer. So, in the long run, it is, in many cases, cheaper. More durable things with right treatment last much, much longer in most cases.

On the same time, we need to have in mind that it not always better quality in more expensive things. That is the reason there are so many guides about what to have in mind on this site. 4. It’s funny thinking back on my younger days when I played ball.  If a glove was $20 it was considered expensive.  Times do change.

You have done a good job here outlining the features of the different gloves which can be bought for less than a hundred bucks.  Some of these brands were not around when I was growing up.

I probably still have an old glove or two around in storage.  I will look for them at some point.  I think they are Wilson but not sure.  I also had a Spaulding glove in the past if I recall correctly.

These days $70 seems very reasonable for a baseball glove.  Thanks for the info and bringing back some memories.  My nephew is in Little League.  I am now curious to see what brand he uses.  All the Best.

  5. My son is just starting out on baseball and I needed to get him some gloves. I saw so many different ones I was lost on how to get the best that wouldn’t be too expensive, hence my search on the net.

Reading your article has really thrown a great light to what I needed.

I am going with two choices right now, and I hope you can advise me on which of these two picks will be better for a kid of 6 years old?

Wilson A900 series catches my fancy because it goes for both left and right-hand throws so at his age I believe both sided glove should work for him, but I dont know if they are available for kids his age?

Then I also like this Academia Rookie series for the same reason as above. I just dont know which amongst the two will be best for 6 years old, and I hope you can help me out with that?

    Thanks.

Great to hear about your benefits of the article.

I understand you well, there are a lot of great gloves on the market these days.

First of all, you don´t need to buy gloves for both hands. He will always use the hand that he throws better with and has the glove on the other.

Both Wilson A900 and the Akademia is an excellent glove. But as he is very young and we don´t know what happens, I would recommend starting with Academia. Many players keep using it if they have started with it and that is huge praise. It is a smaller brand than Rawlings and Wilson, but the leather is excellent plus the design, very comfortable to use.

If I can help you with anything else, or if you have any questions, don´t hesitate to contact me.

  6. I feel like this article will certainly be of help to many people! I especially believe to be true for those just getting into the game of baseball. The reason I say this is because many people don’t want to be purchasing $300.00 gloves when just starting and “testing the waters.”

I agree that when people start in a new sport, kids, and adults, it is better to buy cheaper things when they are finding out if they like it. And to, it takes time to learn things and the difference in gloves are much between position, so they need to find out too which position they like, or are best in if we want to say so.

Even so, you need to remember it is crucial to use good things as these gloves all are.

  7. I enjoyed reading this post, and it brought back memories for me as well. Days, when life was simpler and being outdoors, was more the place to be. No such thing as Nintendo back then.

My grandson will be old enough to play ball in a couple of years. It would be great to give him a glove as a gift to start out.

I did notice, however, that in several cases, there was a difference in price for the left and right-hand throw? Could you elaborate on why this is so? Is it more costly to make one than the other?

The Akadema Rookie Series. Funny how it only appears to be available in Right Hand Throw. If so, then this would be another con. But still, seem to be a good glove.

    Lots of great choices here.

Yes, I agree. It is good for all people to be active. And doing something they enjoy, have passion for and/or have fun with is helping them to be active.

And too, if they want to have success in some sports, they need to practice and play it, no computer do it for them.

About the difference in the price, I have seen it but are not sure why it is. But I believe it had something to do with the cost as there are more right-handed people than left-handed. But again, I am not sure why it is.

But there are many gloves which are only for handed. But I have written about great left-handed gloves from Akademia, and on an excellent price. The name of it is Akadema Rookie Series Youth Baseball Glove Review. You can see it here. It is both for left, and right-handed, so that is not a problem.

  8. After you determine the proper size and style and buy your fielding glove, you’ll probably immediately notice that it’s stiff and doesn’t have the pocket needed to catch fly balls and ground balls with ease. Part of breaking in your glove is forming a pocket.

Forming a pocket can be done in several different ways, and the ideal method depends entirely on player preference. Some players use a microwave and swear by it (we don’t recommend it), but others believe there are better ways to do it. Thanks for this wonderful and insightful article.

  10. I definitely agree that if you have the wrong type of glove, you can get that bad hop that goes against you, especially in the infield where what position you play affects the way the ball bounces.

I have pitched or played 1st base for most of my life, and I have found that using a 1st baseman glove when I pitch really helps with my ability to get the ball that comes straight back at me.

Thanks for the overall review of the different budget gloves out there. Comfort is what counts, not price. Cheers

Apart from price, I think skin allergy should also be included as a factor of choice. Going through your article, I decided to buy the Rawlings Select Pro Lite Baseball.
