Best Walking Shoes for Overweight Men Reviews

1. Skechers Sport Men’s Afterburn Strike On Training Shoes

Skechers has been in the shoe industry since 1992, and it has built a solid foundation when it comes to footwear.

Innovative, stylish, and comfortable footwear made them one of the best shoe manufacturers in the world.

The Skechers Sport Men’s Afterburn Strike On Training Shoes is only one of the many models that the brand offers for overweight men.

Review

If you’re overweight, you suffer from a few problems when walking or running.

One way to solve this is to get a good pair of supportive shoes.

The Skechers Afterburn Strike On is made from both 100 percent leather and synthetic leather, a cheaper alternative to genuine leather.

Designed to withstand different weather conditions, you can use it for walking and running for extended periods.

It is more water-resistant compared with genuine leather, as well, so it is a perfect choice for men who want to participate in outdoor sports or fitness programs.

With its synthetic sole, you can freely move your feet without the extra weight of other sole types weighing you down.

You’ll find that it is also more breathable, keeping your feet dry even if you wear it for the whole day.

Most people will buy a shoe as long as they feel that it’s comfortable on their feet.

Unfortunately, this is not a good way to pick a shoe, especially if you’re overweight.

Basically, you won’t know the level of comfort a pair of shoes provides unless you wear them for walking.

You need to look for walking shoes with more cushioning to make sure your feet will feel comfortable throughout the day.

Without proper cushioning, your feet will flatten the midsole, and you might suffer from injuries.

The memory foam insole on these shoes will distribute your weight across your entire foot, which is why it is the perfect material for heavier men.

It will help relieve the pressure from the heels and balls of your feet, allowing you to feel more comfortable while walking or running.

Lastly, its slip-on closure gives you the ability to remove and wear your shoes with ease while keeping your feet secured.

PROS

  • checkLightweight
  • checkDurable construction
  • checkComfortable to wear
  • Stylish
  • Available in different color combinations

CONS

  • The size is a bit tight if your feet are too wide

2. New Balance Men’s 608 V5 Cross Trainer

New Balance has consistently delivered high-quality and durable footwear.

It doesn’t matter if you are obese or overweight; this brand has the right pair of shoes that can offer you comfort the whole day.

The New Balance Men’s 608 V5 Cross Trainer is an amazing pick if you want to start a healthy lifestyle and follow a fitness regimen.

Review

The New Balance Men’s 608 V5 Cross Trainer focuses on comfort and in providing the needs of runners with wide feet.

You’d be able to choose from three widths: Standard, Wide, and X-Wide.

Additionally, you’ll like that it features a dual foam collar. This offers maximum comfort to your feet while giving extra protection to the ankle.

The removable insole is also a fantastic feature, as it allows you to replace the original one.

You will notice that the shoe is a bit heavy compared to others, with a weight of 382 grams per pair.

Even so, it’s still a lightweight shoe. Plus, if you won’t be using it for sprints or marathons, the weight is negligible.

This pair is a good choice if you plan to stay in the gym to do some workouts.

You need to be very meticulous when it comes to breathability, as it also contributes to your comfort.

Overweight men tend to sweat more, which means that making a few movements can soak your feet in sweat.

Your choice of walking shoes must have good airflow to prevent moisture and sweat from staying inside.

If you plan to get genuine or synthetic leather for durability, make sure that the shoe still has a few holes on the upper to allow air to enter it.

The New Balance Men’s 608 V5 Cross Trainer is made using leather, which is a material known for being less breathable.

However, New Balance found a way to make it breathable by placing small perforations in the upper for better airflow.

Still, it might not be the best pair of shoes to wear during summer because of the dual foam padding in the collar.

Its predecessor, the 608 V4 actually had durability issues, but you’ll find this issue already resolved in the V5.

Among other things, the leather upper and the PU shank in the midfoot provide extra toughness to the shoe.

PROS

  • check Durable build
  • check Versatile design
  • check Comfortable to wear
  • check Offers good support

CONS

  • A bit heavy

3. Rockport Men’s Eureka Walking Shoes

Rockport is one of the most popular shoe manufacturers in the United States.

The Rockport Men’s Eureka Walking Shoes are one of the brand’s best shoes yet.

More than anything, you’ll like that it combines the comfort offered by a walking shoe and the look and style of an everyday casual shoe.

Review

Durability is a very important factor when looking for a walking shoe. Often, the extra weight will easily damage a regular shoe.

Buying a cheap walking shoe is not an option, too, as affordable alternatives don’t use high-quality materials.

You might end up wearing out the shoe in just a few months, so it’s better to focus on durability.

You can opt for shoes that are made from genuine or synthetic leather.

Leather is known for its durability, so you can use your shoes for a long time even if you’re overweight.

The Rockport Men’s Eureka Walking Shoes are made of genuine leather.

Although not as breathable, this material is very easy to clean and maintain.

It also comes with a moisture-wicking lining for that extra breathability and comfort.

Even though leather is heavier than other materials, it still remains a good pick for walking.

With its fatigue-fighting footbed, you can stand or walk for a long time without getting easily tired.

Also, the latex foam footbed provides extra cushioning to keep your feet comfortable the whole day.

The padded collar prevents irritation and blisters, giving you optimal cushioned comfort.

Aside from comfort, you need all the support you can get from walking shoes, especially if you’re overweight.

More weight requires more support, so you need a high-quality pair of walking shoes with support on your heels.

You want a shoe that would disperse the impact on the whole of your foot when running or walking.

This would prevent the pressure from focusing on a single area on your foot, which might cause injuries and other problems.

Known for its flexibility and lightweight impact absorption, the EVA midsole on these shoes absorbs the impact while you’re walking.

What’s more, the rubber outsole can provide long-wearing durability and versatility too.

As a result, you can walk or stride on different surfaces without damaging the shoe.

You’ll also find that the grip is extraordinary, so you can use it even on grass or trails.

PROS

  • check Durable construction
  • check Stylish design
  • check Comfortable enough for all-day wear

CONS

  • A bit heavy

4. Saucony Men’s Cohesion 13 Walking Shoes

The Saucony Men’s Cohesion 13 Walking Shoe is budget-friendly footwear.

As such, it is perfect for people who are just starting with their fitness regimen.

If you need footwear you can use for walking or working out, this might just be the perfect choice.

While it might be a basic pair, you’ll find that it has all the necessary features you’ll need to start living a healthy lifestyle.

REVIEW

If you’re overweight, you might need to replace your shoes every few months, especially if it’s only a regular pair.

You need to look for the best walking shoes designed for overweight men, as they are designed specifically for heavier individuals.

As an entry-level shoe, the Saucony Men’s Cohesion 13 is an excellent pick if you are tight on budget and you need a shoe you can use for training.

It’s recommended for beginners and casual runners who need a pair of reliable footwear for easy to moderate runs.

Unfortunately, this is not a good choice if you are going to run long distances or you want a fast shoe.

One of the best features of the Saucony Men’s Cohesion 13 is its exceptional lockdown.

The heel, laces, and upper cushioning will keep your feet secure when you’re walking or running.

Although the midsole is not as light as the more expensive options, the weight is just enough to give you a smooth run on any terrain.

Overweight men sometimes lose their balance when running, which is very common because their feet are under too much stress.

Because of this, more and more manufacturers now add stability features to shoes made for heavier guys.

Thankfully, the Saucony Men’s Cushion 13 offers additional support on the side.

As a result, you can rely on the shoes to keep you balanced at all times, preventing you from stumbling even if you’re running.

PROS

  • check Stylish design
  • check Affordable
  • check Offers a good grip

CONS

  • Not breathable

5. Brooks Addiction Walker Suede

Brooks Sports Inc. is a renowned American shoe manufacturer that dates back to 1914. In addition to shoes, they also manufacture apparel. Note, however, that this is a company whose sole focus is on athletes. So, whether you’re a pro runner, or just running on the sidewalk for fitness, Brooks Running understands your pain points. Now, why do we love the GTS 18?

Review

This men’s shoe was first released in the year 2017. It retails in six different color combinations from size 7.5 to 11.5 on Amazon.

It is a super comfortable shoe with a wide toe box, enough to accommodate a size D to EEEE width. That also means these shoes can accommodate most inserts on the market today.

Even though the shoe soles don’t have a visible interlocking tread pattern, they are equally effective on muddy or wet surfaces. You won’t have to worry about slipping.

To further enhance stability, Adrenaline GTS 18 is intentionally designed to avoid overpronation. This means, your arches and ankles won’t roll.

You also experience the underfoot feel since the shoes are super light. You feel as though you’re stepping on a soft mat.

Now if you struggle to find a tight-fitting shoe, these are your best bet. They are tight enough which is a plus, especially for people with small feet.

PROS

  • check very light yet strong
  • Comfortable and well made
  • More cushioning with a breathable upper

  • You can wear them straight out of the box without breaking in.

  • Available in multiple colors

CONS

  • It might need additional arch support

FINAL VERDICT

Overweight men require very specific walking shoes.

More than style, they need proper support, protection, and comfort to prevent their feet from aching after walking or working out.

Always look for features that would keep your feet protected and provide adequate cushioning.

This way, you won’t feel any pain even if you walk around for the whole day.

If you ask us, the best walking shoes for overweight men are the Skechers Sport Men’s Afterburn Strike On.

This pair is specially made for heavier men, so you’ll have adequate support in all the right places.

For men with feet problems, you can check out OrthoFeet’s Lava sneakers, too, which feature orthotic insoles for the best comfort.

  1. I am going to be forwarding this article to my stepfather. He let his weight get out of control and is now taking steps to lose the weight. All I have ever seen him wear is some kind of walking or running shoe, and he has had complaints of feet problems. With the choices and information you put in the article, it will be quite helpful.

  2. It’s the first time I’ve read such an article carefully.
I recently looked at my sneaker, and one of them is very worn.
My choice is Orthofeet Orthopedic Walking Shoes because I am also overweight, and I run every day.
    But not much.
However, the foot must be well protected, as you say.
And Rockport Men’s Eureka Walking Shoes interests me for endurance.
Thanks for this information from a specialist.

  3. Thanks for listing these walking shoe recommendations for overweight men. My cousin is one of them and his birthday is coming soon. I’m sure he will love either Skecher or New Balance since his wardrobe has several of their products. I’m leaning toward the New Balance one since his feet is quite wide.

  4. Thanks for this comparison of some of the best shoes for overweight men. When a man decides that he wants to start losing weight and getting in shape, it is good not to jump right into running because it can lead to injuries. So, walking is a perfect start to working out and getting in shape. A good shoe is absolutely essential to keep from getting shin splints and other cardio-related injuries. New Ballance is always a good shoe, but my go-to running/walking shoes have always been Brooks.

  5. I’ve always had problems with my feet. I walk a lot, especially when I travel. I usually get blisters and my feet hurt at the end of the day. The only sneakers I’ve found to be useful are Skechers. I must attest to their comfort and good quality. By the way, I need to get myself a new pair.

Based on your review, I’d like to try the NB ones and see how they work. It looks like they could do the trick, too.

I will bookmark this for future reference. Thanks for sharing.

  7. Personally, I like the way the OrthoFeet Men’s Lava Sneakers. Obviously, I am a woman, but trust me, I suffer the same pains an overweight man does! My ankles get sore, and I have nerve damage in my left leg.

WIth regard to the topic of his post, my husband suffers similar ailments, so I will be buying the OrthoFeet Lava Sneakers for him for his upcoming birthday! (Shhh….we won’t tell him they were recommended on a blog post for overweight men!) But this is definitely the perfect, practical gift for him.

The other sneakers recommended have some great qualities. However, I am not a fan of black-on-black style sneakers.

I do think the Rockport brand shoes are nice looking. I like that they look a bit dressier, so they could be worn to a nice lunch or backyard gathering without people looking at us as if we pulled the ‘good old broken in sneaks’ out the closet.

    Thanks for the information!
