The OutdoorMaster Kids Bike Helmet is designed to provide reliable protection and comfort for young cyclists. This helmet combines innovative safety features with a stylish design.

DURABLE IN-MOLD CONSTRUCTION

The OutdoorMaster Kids Bike Helmet features in-mold construction. This construction method fuses the outer polycarbonate shell with the inner EPS foam liner during the molding process.

MIPS features a low-friction layer inside the helmet that allows a small amount of movement (10-15mm) in all directions.

This movement helps reduce the rotational motion transferred to the brain during an impact. By mimicking the brain’s protective mechanism, MIPS provides an additional layer of safety.

This is crucial, particularly in crashes involving oblique impacts, which are common in biking accidents.

ADJUSTABLE FIT SYSTEM

The helmet also includes an adjustable fit system. This allows it to accommodate a wide range of head sizes and shapes.

The precision dial fit system also enables quick and easy adjustments. It helps with ensuring a snug and secure fit.

This prevents the helmet from moving around during rides, enhancing safety and comfort.

In addition, the adjustable straps and interior padding adapt to the rider’s head. They provide a customized fit that improves overall stability. They also reduce the risk of the helmet slipping off.

VENTILATION SYSTEM

The OutdoorMaster Kids Bike Helmet features multiple ventilation holes to keep young riders cool and comfortable.

The strategically placed vents create airflow channels that allow fresh air to circulate through the helmet, while hot air escapes.

This helps regulate temperature and prevents overheating during active play.

SAFETY CERTIFICATION

The helmet complies with CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission) safety standards. This means it has undergone rigorous testing to verify its impact resistance and protective capabilities.

PROS

  • Robust in-mold construction
  • Additional protection against rotational forces during crashes.
  • Adjustable Fit System

  • Safety Certified
  • Several colors to choose from

Are MIPS Bike Helmets Worth It

People Also Ask:

  1. What Does MIPS Mean on a Helmet?

Multi-directional Impact Protection System (MIPS) is a brain protection system incorporated between the EPS foam liner and comfort padding of a helmet.

It is a slid-plane inner layer that allows for 10 to 15 mm rotational movement between the head and helmet within 10 to 15 milliseconds of a collision.

In turn, the reduced rotational forces redirect energy away from the head and brain to minimize brain injury.

MIPS technology is the brainchild of Hans von Holst, a Swedish neurosurgeon. While undertaking his research for the World Health Organization, Hans noted that there were too many cases of brain injury for bikers involved in accidents despite wearing their safety helmets.

By wanting to know why the helmets failed to work well, Hans studied the behavior of the brain matter upon impact from various angles.

He discovered that whereas the brain can withstand linear impacts to the skull, it gives in when faced with rotational strain. Yet, the helmets at that time were tested and equipped to deal with linear impact only.

With the help of Svein Kleiven and Peter Halldin at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Hans came up with the MIPS technology.

The technology made its debut in 2007 and pioneer use in bikes in 2010.

It is for this reason that MIPS is popular with most mountain bike helmets. More so, at least 60 helmet brands across the globe incorporate MIPS technology in their helmets.

What Does MIPS Mean on a Helmet

  1. Are MIPS Bike Helmets Worth It?

Now, we have different bikers facing different accidents all the time. In turn, no helmet can claim to be fully equipped to protect a rider from brain injury in the event of a collision.

Besides, when helmets undergo standardized tests, they obtain a flat pass or fail report. Hence, there is no way of knowing the exact rating they get when they pass the tests.

Helmet manufacturers using the MIPS technology in their shells shy away from making ‘safe’ claims for their models.

They fear huge litigation costs they can incur should anyone using their helmets sue them for brain injury sustained.

Yet, bike helmets using MIPS technology are 10% – 60% better at handling rotational forces than a helmet with no MIPS layer.

This percentage depends on the said helmet brand. So what do you think? Are they worth the hype?

  1. Hi, I’m pleased to meet you. I went through your article and believe me it is very helpful. Kids need protective material, especially when they bike. These helmets are really nice, but I like the demon podium full-face mountain bike helmet, and I will definitely get one for my son. He loves biking, and sometimes I feel very uncomfortable with it because I think it can sometimes be dangerous. By the way, are there any other protective materials for biking, except the helmets? Thank you for sharing such an amazing piece of writing with us. I will be sharing it further, too.

The most critical safety equipment is always a helmet to help to defend your head and brain. But others can be useful too. Things like gloves, mirror, light, and mouthguard would be the most important of that equipment.

  3. Thank you for the great review. A helmet is an essential element to keep kids safe on bikes, and as spring is coming, I was looking for a new one. 4. Wearing a helmet while cycling is extremely important to protect your kids, but also for adults. I agree that kids want to wear a helmet that looks cool but is not too heavy or uncomfortable. I had not heard about the MIPS system before, but I will certainly make sure that a helmet has that for additional protection.

You mention that the Giro TREMOR MIPS helmet has US and EU certifications for safety. But what does that cover, and how difficult is it for a manufacturer to get the certification?

These certifications you ask about, U.S.: CPSC BICYCLE FOR AGES 5+ and E.U.: CE EN1078 helmet safety standards. And are a guarantee of safety for thinner and lighter helmets for impacts from a lower height. So the manufacturers need to have the standards minimum as good as they request.

  5. Some great helmets for kids here. I have been trying to get my teen to wear her helmet, and she says she feels like a dork wearing it. Maybe it is time we upgraded it; then maybe I can entice her to wear it more often.

We quite like the Bell Sidetrack MIPS one, but I see it is only available in small sizes. Do you know where we could get something like this in an adult size? Besides the look, we like that it has lots of ventilation.
